Health Benefits

Supports thyroid function: Atlantic Wakame is a natural source of iodine, a mineral essential for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. Adequate iodine intake is necessary for the synthesis of thyroid hormones, which regulate metabolism, growth, and development. Additionally, seaweed is a good source of dietary fiber, including soluble fiber like alginate. Soluble fiber absorbs water in the gut and forms a gel-like substance, which can help regulate bowel movements and promote regularity. By supporting healthy digestion and preventing constipation, seaweed may help reduce bloating and improve overall gastrointestinal comfort. Moreover, some studies suggest that certain compounds found in seaweed, such as fucoidan and sulfated polysaccharides, have anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation in the digestive system can contribute to bloating and discomfort, so the anti-inflammatory effects of seaweed may help alleviate these symptoms.

Testimonials

Easy to sprinkle on salads. I like that the amount of iodine is portioned out in one teaspoon increments. Makes it easy to use less if you want to cut back on the one teaspoon recommended dose. I also like the fact that the packaging is paper and not plastic.

A great-tasting seaweed..!This is the first time I've tried young baby Seaweed, and it is delicious - a great product from this company. Nicely packaged and delivered quickly with good after-sales contact. Apparently they are the only company that is using this freeze-drying technique to lock in the nutrients. It's a small packet but the seaweed is gorgeous, so if it's holding all the goodness in for me then even better!

King of wakameThis is probably the best tasting wakame out there! With this purchase you definitely get quality over quantity but Im happy to pay more for this product as its much nicer than other brands i have tried

FAQ

Is this product tested for heavy metals?

To ensure the quality of our seaweed, every batch has been tested for nutrient and heavy metals content. Due to cultivating only young seaweed, the heavy metal content is well below the set limits.

I recently received my Atlantic Wakame flakes, but I noticed there is a white substance covering them. The smell is okay, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this?

The white substance you see on the flakes is perfectly normal. Wakame, which is derived from the ocean, naturally contains salt. Even after the washing process before drying, some salt residue, known as mannitol, may remain on the flakes. This is a desirable aspect of the seaweed as it adds to the flavour profile. It is not necessary to wash the flakes, as doing so may result in a loss of taste.

Do these flakes expand much when added to water?

Freeze-dried seaweed flakes do not expand in water, unlike regular seaweed. This is because the freeze-drying process removes moisture and preserves the flakes' original structure. However, this technology offers a significant advantage: it helps retain more nutrients compared to traditional drying methods. So, even though they don't expand, freeze-dried seaweed flakes still provide enhanced nutritional value, making them a favorable choice for many.

How much iodine is there in a serving?

Numami Atlantic Wakame contains around 180% of iodine recommended daily intake in one serving (1 teaspoon)

Does this require cooking or soaking prior to consuming? If so, for how long?

Our Wakame seaweed is freeze dried from a young plant so there is no need for cooking or soaking. The flakes are very soft and ready to eat. Just remember the daily limits because of the high iodine content. Enjoy!
